Letters from Roscoe – Where’s Your Homework?

Where’s YOUR Homework?

A few months ago in a Letter from Roscoe I asked all of you to help me in writing a new book called ‘The Testimony of a Church’.  Many of you have responded, but we need more.  We have not yet reached that point where the testimony of OUR Church is complete and the stories we have collected don’t cover the broad range of people that is Highland Park Baptist Church.

When I made that request for testimonies I inadvertently restricted you and your stories.  The request I made was for you to tell only stories about how you were saved or came to know Jesus.

I shouldn’t have done that.

I would like to amend that request to also include your testimonies of how Jesus has worked in ‘your’ life.  Those testimonies are out there.  Every one of us has a Jesus story or else we wouldn’t be here at Highland Park.  Big story or small one, it doesn’t matter they all need to be told.

Big story or small one, it doesn’t matter they all need to be told.

A few Sunday’s ago, Brother Eddie delivered a message titled“The Stones of Remembrance.”  The sermon was based on Joshua 4:1-12.  The scripture tells us about when Joshua led the Israelites across the flooded Jordan River.  The waters were over the banks and flowing rapidly, but God stopped the river’s flow and held it back until 40,000 Israelites had crossed over to the other side.  To memorialize this crossing God directed Joshua to have twelve stones taken from the middle of the Jordan River and placed on the opposite bank after crossing.  These stones were placed there as God specified to help remind their children of how God made it possible that day for them to cross the river that day.

The Bible says that those stones are still there.  Still reminding us of God’s miracle!

Your testimony could be your own personal ‘Stone of Remembrance’.  Think about it.  When you’ve needed it, God has worked in your life.  He has lifted you up and helped you cross rivers too!

Make your testimony into a Stone and bring it to the bank like they did in Joshua 4.  Share your story so that your Children’s children will one day know how Jesus changed their lives through your relationship with Christ.

I look forward to hearing from each of you.  By the way, if you’ve got more than one story; bring more stones and tell them all!

Sincerely,

Your Brother in Christ and a fellow Christian in Training – Roscoe
