Letters from Roscoe – You’ve Got . . . Homework!

Letters from Roscoe – You’ve Got . . . Homework!

You’ve got . . . Homework!

Troy, not to be satisfied with one Roscoe story keeps asking for another ‘Roscoe Book’.  He may get it but I’ve got news for him!  There’s going to be a big plot twist.

I’m not going to write it.

YOU are.

You see, yesterday, I was cooking at the Men’s Breakfast.  Actually, I think I was at about the two and a half pound mark in cooking a three pound slab of bacon when it suddenly came to me.

I was standing there flipping bacon slices when the good Lord put an idea into my head.  He passed me a thought that literally came right out of the blue.

You know how you can be in Church and someone will stand up and give their testimony?  You know how moving that can be?  How emotional?  How powerful?

Just imagine a whole book filled with personal testimonies.  Can you imagine how big a “GOD” story that could be?  What if, the whole Church sat down and wrote out their own personal testimonies and they were compiled into a single book?

We could call it “The Testimony of a Church” by Highland Park Baptist Church

Anyway, God planted this seed and it has been on my mind ever since.  I have been trying to be sure it was God who gave me the idea and not something I cooked up on my own.

I became sure it was HIS idea tonight as I was listening to Preacher Ronnie speak.  He was talking about how one person’s testimony can have such a powerful effect on someone else.  To me though, it was clear as a bell that God was telling me he wants me to do this.  He wants me to make this request of you.

Most of us probably think that our stories are unimportant, but like the Preacher said, everyone’s story is different and the way it impacts you may strike someone else in a totally different way.  What you experienced may be the same thing someone else is feeling right now.  They may benefit from hearing your story, hearing how you answered the call.

So let me ask you some questions to help get you started.

Where were you when you said ‘Yes’ to Jesus?

How old were you?

Was there anything “going on” in your life at the time?

Where were you when He spoke to you?  Were you in Church?  Listening to the radio?  Maybe at a Revival?

What did He say, or what did you see, hear, feel or even smell that told you NOW was the time to say ‘Yes.’?

How has He changed your life since then?

Where do you think you would be or what would have happened if you had said ‘No’?  Or was that even a possibility?

There are probably a hundred more questions that I could ask you and still not cover all the bases.  But that is what I need you to do.  I need you to just sit down and think about your own experience and then write it down.

Write it like you are telling God how it happened.  (As if he would forget!)  But do it.  Write it down and don’t be afraid to tell what color the flowers were that day either.

This is YOUR chance to shout YOUR story from the rooftops and tell everyone how you became a child of GOD!

And yes, you can do it anonymously if that is your preference.  It doesn’t matter how old or how young you are either.  It doesn’t matter if you can’t spell very good or your handwriting is sloppy.

The important thing is to tell your story.

Now that I’ve told you this, the pressure is off of me.

I’ve done my part.  I’ve delivered the message.  Now it’s up to you to write your story of how you ‘Came to Jesus’ that one day.

But do it.

Write it down.

Please.

And then slip me a copy the next time you see me.

Sincerely,

Your Brother in Christ, Roscoe
(A Christian in Training)
