The Letters from Roscoe

Our Brother Ray

This morning at the Men’s Prayer Breakfast, Harold Brown did a really good thing.

He saw the struggle our brother Ray Purkey has to make just to eat breakfast, so he encouraged Ray to keep up the good fight.  Ray is fighting a frustrating and hard battle.  But he fights and he doesn’t give up and he continues to love the Lord our God with a steadfast faith and a heart as big as Texas.  (Yes, I know we’re in Tennessee, but Ray’s heart is bigger than that!)

If the doors are open at Church he always makes his best effort to be there.

It may be that Ray doesn’t see anything but the problems that he is having.  He probably doesn’t see the example that he is unconsciously setting for the rest of us on how to keep our eyes on Jesus when we’re down in the valley.

But he is.

We see the shaking hands, the unsteady gait, the voice that has dropped to a whisper and the strength that was once there is slowly lessening.

But we also see a bright eye, a humble personality, a grateful attitude, a kind smile and the love of a fellow brother in Christ.  It just cheers my heart every time that Ray walks in for the Saturday Morning Breakfast.

You my good friend Ray Purkey are a good man and an even better follower of Christ! We love you Ray.

Thank you Mr. Brown for being the encourager – just like Barnabus!
