The Letters from Roscoe – Who is More Important to You?

Who is More Important to You?

OMG!  OMG! Oh My Goodness!

Bubba had messed up.  He had been doing something that he thought no one would see.

But it slipped out!

And all of a sudden Bubba’s secret was out there waving in the wind like a pair of dirty long johns on the flagpole.  But Bubba had scrambled and managed to cover his tracks before anyone could see his dirty laundry signaling everyone with a “Hey!  Lookie, lookie, lookie!  Come see what Bubba’s been-a-doing!

O-M-G, Oh My Gomer-Pyle!  That was close he thought.  My church family might have seen what I was doing.  They might have seen the real me in that little instant.  Well, he thought to himself I got lucky this time.  No one seems to have seen it.

Well Bubba, I’ve got news for you, your Church family ‘tweren’t’ the ones to be worrying about.

It’s the one you never even thought about as you were trying to cover your sin that saw everything.  Remember what Jesus said about charity?

Don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.  (Matthew 6:3-4)

Did you really think he doesn’t see everything else too?

So why weren’t you worried about what He was seeing instead of what your Church family might have seen?  Who do you want to avoid disappointing more?

You see, this is what happens when you are sitting on the fence.  You see, the devil owns the fence.  So sitting there on that fence with one foot on God’s side while still holding onto those sinful things at the fence is not as safe as you think.  You have to let go!  Get off and away from the fence!  Don’t listen to the devil when he tells you you’re in a ‘good place’.  Don’t listen to him when he says it’s OK to do this or that, when you know it’s not because the Holy Spirit has already convicted you of it.

Colossians 3:16 (ESV) states ‘Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.’

Commit yourself to God’s way and stop trying to live your old sinful life while proclaiming that you love and serve God.

Sure, it’s going to be hard.  You are going to fall.  Probably a lot to begin with, but the difference is that when you let go of the fence and do commit yourself to God, He is going to help pick you back up when you fall.  He will dust you off, let you know that you are still loved and set you back on His path.  1 John 5:4 states, “For everyone born of God overcomes the world.  This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.”

Not enough?  How about Isaiah 61:7 – “Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance.  And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.

You are loved by God.  Jeremiah 29:11 states it best.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

And Bubba?

If Bubba would just heed this advice and trust God, well he would just be a much happier person.
