Three Things

Three Things

Three Things

First thing.  I love my church.  I thank the good Lord for leading us to it when we moved here from Texas.  I have grown more spiritually here than I have anywhere.  I will grow best where God has planted me.  At Highland Park Baptist Church in Lenoir City Tennessee, I am surrounded by a fellowship that loves God.  They comprise the earth in which I grow.  Brother Eddie showers us with the word of God.  That is the rain.

And the Lord our God shines down upon our little Church for he is the Sun.

Second thing.  I first learned The Lord’s Prayer at the knee of my father when I was seven years old.  I learned it by rote memorization.  Over the past couple of Wednesdays I have listened to Brother Eddie speak about what it means.  Those words that I blindly said for all those years I never gave their meaning any real thought.

It’s like suddenly waking up to find out that they’ve started slicing the bread for you.

Third thing.  I am properly prepared this time.

My daughter was over for dinner tonight and she asked us if Hunter (a.k.a. the Real Roscoe) had asked us about God today.  He was out sick from school so we had him all day long…phew…) She said she was kind of hoping that he would ask us about God so we could explain it to him.

You know.  Those questions like, ‘Really? He’s all around us?’, ‘He can see EVERYTHING?’, ‘Even when I’m on the toilet?’, (You know he’ll ask that one for sure!) ‘How can he be inside of me?’ and finally, ‘Where does he live?’  Trying to explain this to a four year old can certainly be an experience.  But this time, I am better prepared.

I say this time, because the last time when my youngest daughter and I were talking about it, I wasn’t prepared.  I didn’t even think that I believed in God at the time.  I was wrong.  So wrong and I hope and pray that one day she will ask again and I will get to give her the right answer.

But as for Roscoe.  I believe I am prepared because I believe.

I want to tell him that God wants to be our best friend.  That God lives all around us.  But He wants most of all to live in your heart.  He wants you to talk to Him all the time.

When something is bothering you, He wants you to tell Him about it first.  He will help you with it.  He will give you answers.  You just have to listen for Him.  His voice will be the soft quiet voice way down deep inside you.

He will help you to tell the difference between right and wrong.  When your Grandma is feeling bad and maybe needs some help, He is the perfect person to tell.  Because God can do anything.

He knows everything, and even though sometimes he may not be able to give you what you are asking for; He will give you what you need.

And He will never ever leave you alone.  Even when you’ve left Him, He will stay with you.  Watching over you in the way that only God can.

I know.  Because He did it for me.
